Launch of the BodaBoda Ambassadors Peace Project

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in conjunction with the Bodaboda  Association of Kenya have launched a peace ambassador campaign to educate the motorcyclists on the importance of  observing road safety rules.

Speaking during the forum, NTSA Manager Road safety Strategies and Country Coordination Mr Samuel Musumba alluded that 1.1 million motor cycles that have been registered possess licenses.

“This year the rate of deaths increased with 19.8% compared to last year. This is due to negligence of road safety rules. We are therefore urging the road users to obtain licenses and the required motor cyclist uniforms that can protect them.” said Mr. Musumba.

The Automotive Association Kenya (AA K) has been on the forefront of training motorcyclists on how to use the light indicators and on how to observe other road safety measures. They also ensure that after they are well trained they obtain licenses.

The National Chairman of Boda Boda Mr. Kevin Mubadi alleged that about 300 boda bodas have been trained and the association is planning to make sure all of them have got licenses because it’s what they lack as it is a necessity for them to avoid causing accidents hence ensuring there is safety.
Mr Mubadi also said that they will ensure the insurance companies cover the bodabodas in case of accidents and theft.

The deputy governor of Kajiado county Mr. Tiaty who graced the occasion urged the bodaboda members to embrace the changes that have been put in place since they will be beneficial.
The motor cyclists have been encouraged to form saccos and be making a contribution of 400 each at least every day and in this they will be able to get loans and grow.
